About Us

Custom Home Designs is a home plan design firm that was established by Stephen L. Thrash in 1991. The firm is located in Prattville, Alabama just north of the capital city of Montgomery. Over the years they have taken great pride in establishing a company that provides an excellent service in home plan design and will continue providing quality products to their customers.

In the past six years Custom Home Designs has won numerous awards in plan design. They have received awards in their local Parade of Homes for best master bath, best overall design, and best kitchen design in many different homes ranging in square footage from 1,500 to 3,500 square feet. They have also had plans published in Builder Magazines Special House Plan Issue, the premiere publication for the building industry. These awards and accomplishments are not attainable without special attention to quality design and service.

Recently the firm has followed closely in the New Urbanism movement in the plan design field. This movement is toward a design philosophy of traditional principles of architecture. The plan designs are referred to as TND or Traditional Neighborhood Designs.  The firm has worked closely with town architect Stephen A. Mouzon at The Waters Development located in Pike Road, Alabama. They have designed numerous homes within the development for individual homeowners and builders, and provide on site reviews of the homes under construction. The Lochapoka design at The Waters recently received an award in the Greater Montgomery Homebuilders Parade of Homes. The firm is also submitting designs for The New Urban Guild Collection of plans for Southern Living. In the future the firm hopes to continue to expand their plan collections to highlight the New Urbanism movement in design and further their involvement with different developments across the country.
